    The Pelican Greenhouse is located just off Henry Thomas (Golf) Drive just south of the I-610 underpass. Bring a wagon and arrive early for best selection.     The annual Fall Garden Festival is an educational experience for home gardeners and professionals. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children 5 to 12 years old. Children under 5 and Friends of City Park enter free. There will be plant and garden product exhibits and sales throughout the garden, a Children's Fun Fest area, educational programs, music, arts & crafts, and more. Programs take place in the Garden Study Center and are free with entrance to the show. Sponsored by the New Orleans Botanical Garden, New Orleans City Park, New Orleans Botanical Garden Foundation and Friends of City Park.  The October Plant Sale will take place inside this event (not at the Pelican Greenhouse).     Join your friends for free Zumba classes at the Peristyle in New Orleans City Park. New Orleans City Park, Elmwood Fitness Center, and Ochsner are excited to bring the community yet another way to exercise in the Park. Come ready to dance away stress and have some fun. Wear appropriate workout attire, gym shoes, and bring H2O as you’ll work up a sweat! Though the class will be offered rain or shine, should you be curious about a class please call 733-1600.

    Time: 8 am until 8:45 am
    Where:  The Peristyle in New Orleans City Park (near the intersection of Dreyfous and Anseman)

  • Creating Bonsai from Garden Center Stock

    In this hands-on workshop, students will learn bonsai basics and create a bonsai tree. If you have ever wanted to learn the art of bonsai and how these living works of art are created, then this workshop is for you! Bring your own bonsai pot if you wish and special bonsai soil will be provided. What to bring: sharp pair of scissors, garden gloves, and apron. Soil, wire, and a Juniper will be provided. The class will run from 9am to 12pm on Saturday, April 29th. The class is $35/person and is limited to 15 students and is in the Garden Study Center in the New Orleans Botanical Garden.     A little about the instructor: Jim Osborne is a native to New Orleans and an “Award Winning Bonsai Artist” winning the 2008 Vaughn Banting award.  He has served as a Board of Director for the past seven years and is past Vice-President and past President of the Bonsai Society. He has displayed his personal bonsai collection in the fall and spring New Orleans Botanical Garden Flower Show for many years. Jim has also displayed his bonsai at Art in Bloom in the New Orleans Museum of Art.

    Friends of City Park is participating in GiveNOLA Day, the community’s 24-hour online giving event, hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation. In the spirit of the day, from 3pm to 7pm the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park will be open for unlimited select rides with a minimum $10 online credit card donation per person to Friends of City Park through GiveNOLA.org!   • HIIT Class with lululemon

    Join your friends at the Peristyle for exercising fun in New Orleans City Park with lululemon. These events are free and open to the public. Each class is from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Every month there will be a new instructor who will bring a new style. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) use intervals and a variety of movements, to raise your heart rate in a short amount of time. You can expect things like squats, push up variations, burpees, and lunges to name a few. Instructors may bring along free weights, kettle bells, jump ropes, and other accessories to enhance the class. Bring water to stay hydrated and a towel. If guest are required to bring anything else for a particular class lululemon will inform you via their Facebook event page.
