  • Fall Garden Festival (day one)

    The annual Fall Garden Festival is an educational experience for home gardeners and professionals. Guests enjoy plant and garden product exhibits and sales throughout the garden, a Children's Fun Fest area, educational programs, music, arts & crafts, and more. Programs take place in the Garden Study Center and are free with entrance to the show. The October Plant Sale will take place inside this event (not at the Pelican Greenhouse). For more information or to secure a vendor booth call 504-483-9473. The festival is two days: Saturday October 5th 2019 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday October 6th from 10am to 4pm.     Enter through the Oscar J. Tolmas Building at 5 Victory Avenue
    The New Orleans Botanical Garden will extend its hours to 8 pm every Wednesday during the month of October to celebrate "Evenings with Enrique." Each week, "Evenings with Enrique" will feature local musicians playing among the collection of 16 sculptures by the famed Mexican-American artist.     There’s so much to do in the Botanical Garden, and we would love to help your child do it all. Classes cost $17 each, but are $14 when you register for six classes (three months) at one time.

    This month, Growing Gardeners learn all about trees! Exploring the Botanical Garden’s trees, Growing Gardeners will develop an appreciation for these amazing organisms and study how important trees are to people, animals, and the planet as a whole.

  • Creating Bonsai from Garden Center Stock

    In this three hour hands on workshop, you will learn bonsai basics and you will create your very own bonsai tree. If you have ever wanted to learn the art of bonsai and how these living works of art are created, then this workshop is for you! Bring your own bonsai pot if you wish as special bonsai soil will be provided. What to bring: sharp pair of scissors, garden gloves, and apron. Soil, wire, and a Juniper will be provided. Class limit 15

    Jim Osborne is a native to New Orleans and an “Award Winning Bonsai Artist” winning the 2008 Vaughn Banting award.  He has served as a Board of Director for the past seven years and is past Vice-President and past President of the Bonsai Society. He has displayed his personal bonsai collection in the fall and spring New Orleans Botanical Garden Flower Show for many years. Jim has also displayed his bonsai at Art in Bloom in the New Orleans Museum of Art.

    As the fall harvest comes to a close, Growing Gardeners will spend this month learning all about preservation in the garden. From seed collecting to pickling, Growing Gardeners practice techniques to preserve their vegetables for future planting and eating!

    One of the premier parties of the holiday season in New Orleans, this dazzling soiree kicks off the annual lights display. Guests get the first glimpse of the lights and are given exclusive access to the Botanical Garden and Train Route. Enjoy food and spirits from over 30 restaurants while dancing to live music.

    -Holiday cocktail attire required (no jeans) You will be turned away at the door if you arrive not in at least cocktail attire.
    -No one under 21 years old will be admitted.
    -All sales are final – no refunds or rain checks are given.

    This month, Growing Gardeners take a trip down the bayou and explore our coastal wetlands. Join the Growing Gardeners as we learn about the incredible ecosystem of our coastal wetlands and put on our lab coat to perform experiments on water quality and soil erosion.

  • Flower Pressing

    ArtBotanical GardenEducation

    This workshop will cover instructions on how to press flowers, which plants work and how long to dry them, we will also have discussion about the many uses of pressed flowers. Each participant will make a bookmark and a greeting card using pressed flowers to take home. Supplies will be provided.
