  • SABA Pita Demonstration with Chef Cara Peterson - Kitchen in the Garden

The Brunch will feature Poppy’s recipes from her book prepared by Chef Pat White from Karibu Kitchen, and of course bottomless mimosas. Bring your dollar bills and all the sparkles you can find!

  • Japanese Tea Discovery Class and Tour

    Gachi and the New Orleans Botanical Garden are excited to bring you an eye-opening tea experience that won’t soon be forgotten.

    In our Japanese Tea Discovery Class, you will taste a selection of teas produced on small scale farms, in Wazuka, Japan, and also sample a cherry blossom tea from the Japanese seaside town of Odawara, Kanagawa.Gachi founder, Mimsie Ladner, will share with you the stories behind the teas, from the people who grow them to tips on how to prepare and best enjoy Japanese tea. You’ll also get the chance to taste a selection of traditional Japanese tea sweets.

    Finally, enjoy a personal tour of the Yakumo Nihon Teien Japanese Garden in the New Orleans Botanical Garden, led by Landscape Architect, Robin Tanner, who designed and built the garden. The Japanese Garden serves as a natural setting for Japanese arts such as bonsai, ikebana, and sado (tea ceremony), and also increases the awareness and appreciation of Japanese culture, aesthetics and love of nature among all people in the New Orleans area.

    Flower Arranging by Stephen Sonnier of Dunn & Sonnier Antiques-Florals-Gifts

    Stephen will demonstrate how to use plant material and flowers from your garden to create beautiful arrangements for your home. Participants are encouraged to bring a container which you can use for your take home arrangement. If there is a special flower or foliage from your garden you would like in your arrangement feel free to bring it. We will be cutting flowers and foliage from the Botanical Garden and also supplementing with flowers from the florist. A taste of wine will be served.
