For the older ones, he was the keeper of the flame but Leroy did more than keep the flame. He started a forest fire".     John Robichaux a Creole, born in 1866 in Thibodeaux, was the leader of the premier society orchestra in New Orleans in the years prior to the birth of ragtime and jazz.  Orchestra leader Tom Hook re-creates the sounds of The John Robichaux Orchestra. Drawing largely upon European ballroom dance music, the John Robichaux Orchestra will perform marches, waltzes, schottisches, cakewalks, and quadrilles; the very music that would become the foundation of ragtime and subsequently New Orleans jazz.     Jazz pianist and New Orleans native Steve Pistorius formed the Southern Syncopators in 2007 .The band specializes in the earlier styles of New Orleans Jazz, playing rags, marches, waltzes ,stomps and popular tunes from the early 20th century as well as the classic compositions of Jazz icons Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet and Louis Armstrong.
