    Over the past 17 years, the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience has built a reputation for drawing some of the biggest names in music to City Park for one of the biggest celebrations in the country. This year is no different, with a line-up that includes 75+ artists. The Experience takes place on the Festival Grounds also include a wide variety of New Orleans cuisine, a Farris wheel, rides and large scale interactive art installations.     Debbie Davis is a familiar face at our Thursday concerts having performed on numerous occasions with the Pfister Sisters. The Mesmerizers feature the talents of Alex McMurray (guitar), Matt Perrine (sousaphone) Josh Paxton (piano) and Davis on vocals and ukulele. Offbeat magazine says, "Debbie Davis stands out in the crowd of vocalists like a bird-of-paradise in a roomful of parakeets."   • Thursdays at Twilight - Little Freddie King

    The cousin of Lightnin' Hopkins, King learned guitar from his father, but in 1954 moved to New Orleans at the age of 14. He played in many juke joints with his friends Babe Stovall, Slim Harpo, and Champion  Jack Dupree, playing both acoustic and electric guitar. He recorded the first electric blues album in New Orleans with Harmonica Williams in 1969. In 1976, King undertook a European tour alongside Bo Diddley and John Lee Hooker.  He is a member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and three times selected Blues Performer of the Year in New Orleans.  The weekly Thursdays at Twilight series showcases some of the finest musicians in New Orleans featuring an assortment of music styles.     Celebration in the Oaks Preview Party for Adults
    One of the premier parties of the holiday season in New Orleans, this dazzling soiree kicks off the annual lights display. Guests get the first glimpse of the lights and are given exclusive access to the Botanical Garden and amusement park. Naturally, because this is New Orleans, food, music and adult beverages are available in abundance. Five live music stages feature the best local musicians, and guest are treated to a tantalizing array of foods from 50 local restaurants and caterers. The party is from 7:30pm to 11pm.
    Tickets: $100/person in advance; $120/person day of event; Friends of City Park members: $90/person.

  • Celebration in the Oaks: Jingle Bells & Beer

    Please join us for our holiday event created just for young adults – and those young at heart! Guests can ride on all the rides within City Park’s amusement park, under the beautiful lights of Celebration in the Oaks. Craft beers will be available to sampe throughout the amusement park, and “munchies” will be provided from local food vendors. Dancing to live music from local bands  will make your bells jingle!
    Admission includes:
    * Unlimited rides at the amusement park, including the miniature train and carousel.
    * Unlimited beer, soft drinks and water from a variety of local distributors and beer samples of craft beers
    * Unlimited food for all guests, provided by local restaurants, grocery stores and vendors.
    The event is from 7pm to 10pm. This party requires casual attire (as opposed to the Preview Party where cocktail attire is necessary). 
    $35 FOCP members
    $40 general public (in advance)
    $45 general public (day of event)

    6:30-7:30 p.m.: Artful Palate with Chef Chip Flanagan, Ralph’s on the Park
    About Artful Palate:
    Café NOMA’s Artful Palate summer cooking series returns in 2015 with seven art-inspired cooking demonstrations led by Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group chefs. NOMA’s exhibition A Louisiana Parlor: Antebellum Taste & Context celebrates the acquisition of a superb rococo revival parlor from the Butler-Greenwood Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana. In honor of the exhibition, the Artful Palate demonstrations will feature Creole-inspired dishes and traditions. Chefs from Café NOMA, Ralph’s on the Park, Red Fish Grill, Brennan’s, Heritage Grill, Napoleon House and café b will lead the demonstrations, along with local guest chefs and purveyors. Artful Palate is free of charge and open on a first come, first served basis.
