  • Thursdays at Twilight - Tanya and Dorise

    Usually seen performing on the streets in the French Quarter, violinist Tanya and guitarist Dorise bring their musical talents indoors for our concert series. Music is what brought Tanya from Taiwan, and Dorise from Connecticut to New Orleans. Tanya and Dorise will perform a variety of music, including jazz, blues, rock, and soul. Don’t miss this concert.   • NOMA’s Love in the Garden

    Regions Bank presents LOVE in the Garden.  Celebrating the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, NOMA will be honoring 5 local artists who are NOCCA alumni to honor their 40th anniversary this year. Tickets and more information are available at www.noma.org.  This event begins at 7pm. The Museum closes at 5pm.

  • Bird Watching in City Park

    Explore the Couturie Forest with Mark Meunier while enjoying a look at City Park’s avian inhabitants in the Couturie Forest. Mark will show you their habits and alert you to their calls. Appropriate walking attire and binoculars are needed. Meet at the Couturie Forest trailhead on Harrison Avenue in City Park

    Mark Meunier holds a B.A. in Biology from UNO. He is a naturalist and avid birder. He has attended several birding events including the Annual Grand Isle Bird Count and the St. Francisville Bird Fest. Mark has been a dedicated New Orleans Botanical Garden staff member for many years. Mark has been bird watching in this forest for many years and knows all the hiding places that birds rest.
    The class is Saturday, September 27 from 8am to 10am. The class is $10/person and Pre-registration is required for all classes to ensure that a class is not canceled due to low enrollment. The class is limited to 20 people. For more information or to register call 483-9473 or email scapley@nocp.org.

  • Yoga in the Sculpture Garden

    NOMA has teamed up with the East Jefferson Wellness Center to offer wellness classes throughout the week.  This event is 8am till 9am. Saturday morning’s Yoga in the Sculpture Garden classes are taught in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden when weather allows.  The beginner friendly classes are $5 and free for NOMA and East Jefferson Wellness Center members.  To register for Yoga in the Sculpture Garden, call East Jefferson Healthfinders at (504) 456-5000.

  • Tai Chi/Chi Kung Class

    NOMA has teamed up with the East Jefferson Wellness Center to offer wellness classes throughout the week. This event is 6pm till 7pm.  Monday evening’s Tai Chi/Chi Kung classes are taught in the museum and, when weather allows, in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden.  The beginner friendly classes are $5 and free for NOMA and East Jefferson Wellness Center members.  To register for Tai Chi/Chi Kung, call East Jefferson Healthfinders at (504) 456-5000.

  • Thursdays at Twilight - Little Freddie King

    The cousin of Lightnin' Hopkins, King learned guitar from his father, but in 1954 moved to New Orleans at the age of 14. He played in many juke joints with his friends Babe Stovall, Slim Harpo, and Champion Jack Dupree, playing both acoustic and electric guitar. He recorded the firrst electric blues album in New Orleans with Harmonica Williams in 1969. In 1976, King undertook a European tour alongside Bo Diddley and John Lee Hooker. He is a member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Three times selected Blues Performer of the Year in New Orleans.

    Where:  Meet at the front entrance of the Botanical Garden

    Introduce your little green thumbs to the world of gardening! The Botanical Garden Growing Gardeners program introduces children to the fun of gardening while learning about (and playing with!) plants, food, and ecosystems.
    Age requirement: Children ages 6-9 welcome
    Class fee: $15 per class. $12 per class if you register for 6 classes at once! *When paying in advance classes do not need to be used consecutively.

    John is a master of nger style guitar, applying it to an eclectic array of genres: classical, jazz, folk, blues, and classic New Orleans music. John will be performing with Don Vappie, Paul Soniat, and world renowned French accordionist Norbert Slama.
