  • Thursdays at Twilight - Little Freddie King

    The cousin of Lightnin' Hopkins, King learned guitar from his father, but in 1954 moved to New Orleans at the age of 14. He played in many juke joints with his friends Babe Stovall, Slim Harpo, and Champion Jack Dupree, playing both acoustic and electric guitar. He recorded the firrst electric blues album in New Orleans with Harmonica Williams in 1969. In 1976, King undertook a European tour alongside Bo Diddley and John Lee Hooker. He is a member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Three times selected Blues Performer of the Year in New Orleans.

    Where:  Meet at the front entrance of the Botanical Garden

    Introduce your little green thumbs to the world of gardening! The Botanical Garden Growing Gardeners program introduces children to the fun of gardening while learning about (and playing with!) plants, food, and ecosystems.
    Age requirement: Children ages 6-9 welcome
    Class fee: $15 per class. $12 per class if you register for 6 classes at once! *When paying in advance classes do not need to be used consecutively.

    John is a master of nger style guitar, applying it to an eclectic array of genres: classical, jazz, folk, blues, and classic New Orleans music. John will be performing with Don Vappie, Paul Soniat, and world renowned French accordionist Norbert Slama.     This event takes place at The Park's Festival Grounds area. The date is firm but the times listed here are subject to change without notice.  Louisiana Seafood Festival runs from 11am to 9pm October 10 through October 12.

    The annual Fall Garden Festival is an educational experience for home gardeners and professionals. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 5 to 12. Children under 5 and Friends of City Park enter free. There will be plant and garden product exhibits and sales throughout the garden, Children's Fun Fest area, educational programs, music, arts & crafts, and more. Programs take place in the Garden Study Center and are free with entrance to the show. Sponsored by the New Orleans Botanical Garden, City Park, New Orleans Botanical Garden Foundation and Friends of City Park.  For more information call 504-658-2900.
