    **Update: The July Board Meeting will take place in the Arbor Room at Popp Fountain.**

    The New Orleans City Park Improvement Association board meeting takes place in the board room of the Administration Building at 4pm unless otherwise noted.

  • Louisiana’s Great Outdoors! KIDS Summer Series 2015 at the Botanical Garden

    Children ages 5-10 are welcome to join us for a summer class series based on the Louisiana environment! Topics and activities will include uncovering the insect world, exploring native animals and food webs, learning about the importance of our coastal wetlands, gardening, creating homemade snacks, doing arts and crafts, playing games and more! Classes will meet Fridays, July 10th-August 14th from 10am – noon. To register, or for more information contact Lindsay at nobgeducation@nocp.org or 504-483-9470.

  • Super Saturday Volunteer Day

    City Park hosts Super Saturday, a community volunteer event, and wants you to volunteer! Many groups from the community, including high schools, colleges, churches, service groups, and individuals, attend the event. Work assignments and tools are handed out at the Volunteer Center at 9:00am, and volunteers work until noon doing various tasks, including painting, pruning, raking, mulching, planting, and maintaining areas around City Park.
    Where to be: Volunteer Center at 1009 Harrison Avenue
    When to be there: 8:45am (work begins promptly at 9:00am)
    Who to call with questions or to sign up: Earl at (504)300-6394
    What to bring: Close-toed shoes or boots, a water bottle, sunscreen, bugspray, a brimmed hat, and snacks (if you’d like some).
    Why: Because volunteering for City Park feels great!

  • August Plant Sale

    The Pelican Greenhouse is located just off Henry Thomas (Golf) Drive just south of the I-610 underpass. Bring a wagon and arrive early for best selection. The Plant Sale from 9am to noon and admission is free. For additional information call 504-483-9464 or e-mail plants@nocp.org for a list of plants that will be available for sale.     New Orleans Botanical Garden Education Classes
    Theme: Sampling Soils

    Introduce your little green thumbs to the world of gardening! The Botanical Garden Growing Gardeners program introduces children to the fun of gardening while learning about (and playing with!) plants, food, and ecosystems. Meet at the front entrance of the Botanical Garden. Children ages 6-9 welcome. The fee is $15 per class. But it’s $12 per class if you register for 6 classes at once! *When paying in advance classes do not need to be used consecutively. For more information and to register, call 483-9470 or e-mail nobgeducation@nocp.org.

  • Lessons with Lee “Growing Vegetables”

    This class will be an overview of the fall/winter vegetables to grow in your garden. Lessons will cover the types of veggies to grow from seed to harvest. The class is 2 hours long. The speaker is Lee Rouse, LSU AgCenter, Horticulture Extension Agent, for Orleans Parish. The class will meet in the Garden Study Center. To register: call 483-9473 or email scapley@nocp.org. The class is $10/person.

  • Botanical Garden Class: Cool Season Vegetables and Herbs: Seed Propagation

    This class will focus on details about cool-season vegetables and herbs. Join us to learn about these seasonal plants, watch a seed sowing demonstration, and sow your own seeds to take home with you. THe class is 2 hours and in the Garden Study Center at the Botanical Garden. Class size is limited and preregistration is needed. Please email scapley@nocp.org or call (504) 483-9473 to register. The class is $12/person. Please bring bags or boxes to transport your flats.

    Propagation is easy!  Join us to learn skills needed to propagate plant cuttings.  You can use your newly learned skills for a fun way to share plants with family and friends. Each participant will propagate their own assortment of plants to take home with them. Please bring bags or boxes to transport your flats. The class is from 10:30 am to noon in the Garden Study Center at the Botanical Garden. The class is $12/person. Class size is limited and preregistration is needed.
