City Park
KATRINA
RECOVERY

Hurricane Katrina

City Park experienced serious damage from Hurricane Katrina. Our grounds, trees, infrastructure, records, computers, plantings, and facilities all required significant cleanup and repair. Because of the damage to the Park and the area, City Park was unable to generate revenue for a significant period of time following the storm. Many areas still require work to return them to operation. Postings in this section detail the destruction to our facilities, equipment, Botanical Garden plant collection, our archives, and the impact on our staff. Our 2-year Pictorial review details the destruction and first two years of our recovery efforts. Our photo album shows a representative sample of the destruction and recovery.

As we contunue to recover, we must rely on the support of others to help us rebuild. Please continue through this section for information on the destruction caused the park, our needs, and how you can help through donations or volunteering.
