Earth Day and Swing in the Oaks

Join us for a big celebration with two free events in the Park: Earth Day and Swing in the Oaks.

Celebrate the earth and learn how we can build a healthier relationship with our natural spaces. The event will have exhibitors, activities for children, live music, crafts, cooking demonstrations, and of course delicious food. The event will take place in the New Orleans Botanical Garden.
This celebration promises:
-Guidance on leading a more environmentally responsible lifestyle.
Local businesses and non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental protection, improvement, and education.
-Activities and crafts for kids and adults
-Live acoustic music by The Necessary Gentlemen
-Cooking demonstrations using local, healthy ingredients
-Free meditation classes
-Food, wine, and beer available for purchase.

Visit Earth Day then walk over to listen to the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at Swing in the Oaks on the Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn. This is another free event and there is no bad seat to listen to the live music.
Past musical selections have included traditional classics and modern favorites: “Light Cavalry Overture”, music from Carmen Suite, selections from Phantom of the Opera, “Strike Up the Band”, “Muppet Medley”, a traditional New Orleans Medley, “Big Band Fantasy”, Irving Berlin - A Symphonic Portrait, and “Stars and Stripes Forever”.
While the sounds of LPO can be heard throughout the Park and there are no bad seats, plan to arrive early if you want a spot near the orchestra.

City Park will serve food in compostable dishes. The public may bring their own refreshments. They are encouraged to bring food and drinks in reusable and/or recyclable containers to reduce landfill waste. Look for the Green Station on the Great Lawn to recycle paper goods and glass, to compost, and to place your trash.

WHEN:       Tuesday, April 16, 2019: Earth Day: 4 pm to 7 pm and Swing in the Oaks: 7pm to 9pm.

WHERE:   Earth Day:  New Orleans Botanical Garden (enter through the garden gate on Victory Avenue: use 3 Victory Drive, New Orleans, LA 70124 for GPS)

There is free parking available on Park streets and in the parking lot across from the entrance to the New Orleans Botanical Garden/next to the Great Lawn. We encourage visitors to ride their bike. Victory and Dreyfous will be closed before and during the event.
