Now, nearly two weeks after Hurricane Ida made landfall, the Park has made significant strides in addressing fallen trees and removing countless tons of debris. Our urban tree canopy was significantly impacted, along with other Park amenities. Much more work remains.
We are grateful for the resiliency of this urban greenspace. Things could have been much worse. City Park acted just as a Park should, a big green sponge, absorbing water and mitigating its effects on adjacent neighborhoods.
Park staff and contractors are still performing post-storm tree assessments throughout the 1,300 acres of the Park. Please use caution while in the Park, and avoid walking or parking around any dangling limbs or leaning trees. We hope we can count on you to help us in other ways as well. Help us by taking your trash out of the Park when you leave. Take out what you take in. Help us steward and care for this wonderful resource.
If you are able, please consider donating to our Disaster Relief Fund. Home to the largest collection of Live Oak trees in the world, the rehabilitation of City Park is integral to our region, and your support today will directly impact the recovery, beautification, and preservation.
We will be mobilizing volunteer efforts in the near future to assist with our recovery and beautification. Register now by clicking here to be notified of City Park volunteer efforts when recovery projects have been added and we are ready for hands-on support.
