Audubon Nature Institute and New Orleans City Park are partnering to collect new swimsuits for residents in need in support of Mayor Cantrell and the New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission’s swimsuit drive. New unused swimsuits with tags can be dropped off at all Audubon attractions, City Park, City Hall, and NORD facilities.
“We are pleased to partner with Audubon Nature Institute and New Orleans City Park in our efforts to collect new swimsuits for residents of all ages,” said NORD CEO, Larry Barabino, Jr. “Through these donations, we will ensure everyone who wants to utilize the City’s pools during the hot summer months has the proper swimwear, and that all residents can participate in NORD’s free, year-round water safety, and swim lessons.”
With outdoor temperatures rising and children out of school for summer, pool time is a great way to beat the heat and expel some energy. The call for swimsuit donations underscores the City’s effort to make sure all New Orleans residents have access to the City’s 17 free public pools and the free swim lessons offered year-round.
Swimsuits can be donated at Guest Services windows at Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, and Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium. Community members will receive one complimentary admission ticket to the Audubon attraction of their choice when they donate one new swimsuit at one of these Audubon attractions. Limit four tickets per person.
“When we learned about the swimsuit drive, we thought it was only natural that we participate in some way to give children the opportunity to swim at the city’s community- based pools. Part of our mission is to connect children and families with nature and the great outdoors. We are proud that our employees will be making donations as well,” said Audubon Vice President of Community Affairs Chimene Grant Saloy.
New Orleans City Park is offering one Carousel Gardens Amusement Park admission ticket and unlimited ride band for each swimsuit donated at the City Park drop-off location. Swimsuit donations can be dropped off at City Park’s Administration Building located at 1 Palm Drive, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Limit four tickets per person.
“As a regional Park recreation is always at the forefront of our thinking. We’re thrilled to help the children and families of New Orleans beat-the-heat a little by enjoying pool time this summer at the NORD facilities,” New Orleans City Park CEO Bob Becker.
NORD is collecting new swimsuits at all recreation centers, pools, and the NORD Administration Building, located on Franklin Avenue, during regular operating hours.
Swimsuit donations will be collected through August 30 at all drop-off locations.
