Scarecrow Contest

in the Botanical Garden

The New Orleans Botanical Garden invites individuals, families, businesses, civic organizations and schools to create a scarecrow to be displayed during the Fall Garden Festival.

Everyone can participate!  It is free to participate and the frame to make the scarecrow is free too!

Your creation should fall into one of these categories:  traditional, funny, scary, most original.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded in each category and a Best of Show for the overall competition.  All scarecrows should be appropriate for family viewing.  No religious, political or controversial themes or designs.

The scarecrows will be on display starting September 11th for the Fall Garden Festival and ending on October 6th.

Free scarecrow frames may be picked up from the gift shop in the Oscar J. Tolmas Visitor Center (5 Victory Avenue) from 10 am to0 4:30 pm Wednesday through Sunday. 

Scarecrow placement is Thursday, September 9th, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm and Friday, September 10th, from10 am to noon.  Scarecrows arriving after this time will not be judged.  You can register by mail to New Orleans Botanical Garden, One Palm Drive, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124 or e-mail garden@nocp.org.
